Hold The Pickles

A few nights ago I went out to eat dinner at Denny’s and ordered the usual “burger and fries…but without the bun and just cheese”.  Now I do understand that eating out and eating gluten free can be challenging in a restaurant setting, especially if it is at a busy time where servers are flying from table to table.  However lately it has not been the dreaded bun that has become a problem when ordering meals…its what they put “on the side”.  I’m guessing to make the plate look fuller then just a burger and a few fries on the side.  Sure the lettuce, tomato and pickles do the trick…but wait, pickles are not a gluten free food!

So to continue the story, the food came out fine without any bun and only saw lettuce and a tomato on the side.  So after I ate about half, I realized there were pickles all underneath the burger!  Normally I see these things because they will put them close or on top of the lettuce so I can just pick them off…but no, these were hiding underneath blending in with the lettuce!  Our waiter was a very nice Chinese man I could barely understand so I felt bad to ask him to take it back since I had eaten half and I did not exactly ask for no pickles just without the bun.  Least to say I went to the fries and left the rest of the burger.

Finally I have realized I need to pay more attention when ordering and to not just asking for no bread on the plate but to expand to no pickles as well.

Just a little something to remember :)
