Saliva Genetic Test by MyCeliacID
If you read one of my older posts about an at home test for celiac disease (aka the Biocard Celiac Home Test). But remember how it wasn’t based in the US? Well a new test is on the market called “MyCeliacID” – a Celiac Disease test and they have made it so all you have to do to test yourself is 1. Order online and 2. Test your Saliva. This home test uses your saliva to accurately tell you if you have Celiac Disease or if you have the genetics to possibly in the future get Celiac Disease (if it is in your genes and has not been triggered).
To find out more you can check out their site at MyCeliacID.com – the test runs you $329 and you can purchase online. It’s great if you do not have insurance and/or you do not want to pay a hefty fee for your doctor to suggest and start testing for Celiac Disease. Also unlike other Celiac tests – this test will show up positive for Celiac even if you have been on the gluten free diet for some time (other tests will show negative for anyone following a gluten free diet). I think this is a great discovery for people who may have Celiac Disease!
**Remember that just because you test positive for having the Celiac genetics – does not 100% guarantee that you actually suffer from Celiac Disease.

The MyCeliacID is a great test to have in the celiac diagnosis arenal, however, your readers should be aware that 40% of North Americans are genetically predisposed to celiac disease (ie will test positive), but only about 1% of the population will develop active disesae. If you test postiive with MyCeliacID, it does not mean you have active disease. It means you are predisposed and COULD develop the disease over time. The genetic test becomes extremely useful as an exclusion test. If you have gone gluten-free and can’t get definitive serological and biopsy results but are still symptomatic, this type of test is great to rule out celiac disease as the cause of your symptoms. If you test negative, you can then go on to consider other related conditions such as gluten allergy or gluten intolerance.
Thank you Janet for your input! It is true that alot of people will in fact test positive for Celiac Disease – however I would assume that most who decide to spend money to test themselves may already be reacting negatively to gluten. I believe even if you do not have full blown Celiac that going gluten free can be healthy if you react badly to it.
